Record-breaker Laura dancing to reggae beat

LAURA BECHTOLSHEIMER won the Dressage Deluxe National Dressage Championship in style at the weekend, scoring a new personal best.

Riding Andretti H, her World Equestrian Games reserve, she broke her record of 78.25 per cent scored at the Hickstead Exquis World Dressage Masters CD1 5-star earlier in the year to finish on 78.55 per cent.

Their grand prix freestyle to a reggae soundtrack delighted the grandstand audience.

"To win feels absolutely amazing," said Laura. "My mind is already in Kentucky and this horse deserves a completely concentrated rider. However, he doesn't really make mistakes, regardless of what I do on top."

The dressage star, 25, holds both third and 20th place in the FEI World Dressage rankings with her WEG ride Mistral Hojris and Andretti H, respectively.

YORKSHIRE riders set the challenge at the British Show Pony Society Summer Championships at Arena UK, Grantham.

Sarah Ambler, from Halifax, had good reason to celebrate. Her six-year -old Welsh D gelding Llanarth Welsh Dragon won the large breeds and was champion in the Manning Champion of Champions.

Sarah also took the Williamson & Pitt Novice Heritage Large Breeds section and had a third in the Premier League Red Division.

Victoria Harker, from Northallerton, took the Horse of the Year Lead Rein qualifier and riding the five-year-old Amesbury Vanity Fair by Hollybush Libretto, won the section championships ahead of Stokesley-based Abbie Farmer on Karen Fuge's Woodview Iantho.

Victoria was also sixth in the experimental lead rein with Vanity Fair and with her other pony, Crumpwell Hewitt, was runner-up in the Mountain & Moorland lead rein.

Samantha Brayshaw, from Harrogate, riding the four-year-old gelding Midnight Scoundrel, won the Vaughan Associate Riding Horse Section and went on to take the Associate Supreme Championship and receive the Randies Little March Trophy. Samantha also won the Novice Intermediate Large Riding Type and was second in the Classic Championships.

Michaela Wood, from Harrogate, riding Royal Angel, won the Intermediate Show Riding Horse and was second in the Associate Hack.

Martha Jobling Purser, based at the Emmerson stables, Stokesley, won lead rein show hunter and mini championship riding Jonikas Whistle The Wind and was second in the Premier League Red Division.

The Emmersons had a reserve mini champion with Anna Tuer riding the four-year-old mare Barkway Tiara.

Thomas Tuer was second with Twyford Tailor Made with Jessica Reed clinching the Freestyle tricolour riding Tame Valley Black Jack.

Collingham's Rachel Cooper was in good form to clinch the Dressage to Music Championship riding The Gigolo.

Northallerton's Alice McCullagh, riding Dons Master, won the restricted intermediate working hunter and was second in the champion of champions.

She also had a win in the novice section and rode her gold medal working hunter, Tullin Oisin, which was second in the Desert Orchid 15 hands section.

Oliver Shuttleworth, from Ilkley, riding Waxwings Thumbs Up, was mini champion in the Disneyworld Championships and second in the Champion of Champions First Ridden Heritage.
