Rhinos stutter but get job done in Wales

Crusaders 6 Leeds Rhinos 34LEEDS RHINOS were made to work hard by hosts Crusaders as they got their Super League defence underway in North Wales with a comfortable victory on Friday night.

After Scott Donald's first-half try, Leeds were looking frustrated to being held 6-6 until the 65th minute before a late flurry of tries.

Danny McGuire sprinted clear for the first try to ease the pressure and that was quickly followed by efforts from Ali Lauiititi (2), impressive Australian debutant Brett Delaney and captain Kevin Sinfield.

Afterwards, Leeds coach Brian McClennan said he was always confident that his side's superior class would tell but praised the home side for their efforts.

"I wasn't worried," he said. "I thought even at six-all you could see the team were trying very hard, in a sense over-trying, pushing their hands a bit too much and they coughed up a lot of ball.

"We talked at half-time about relaxing and building some pressure and it was good to see that we did that and turned it round.

"Crusaders were very tenacious and spirited and good on them. They will give some teams a good run for their money on their home park."
