Rotherham Titans 49 Aberavon 7: Titans run in seven tries to end on high

Rotherham’s campaign in the British and Irish Cup ended convincingly as they destroyed Aberavon by seven tries to one to finish second in Pool 7.

Coach Alex Codling used the game to give trials to several players, all of whom made an impression; none more so than Hull forward Laurence Pearce who was making his first appearance for Rotherham since being injured in late August.

Another sparkling debut came from fly-half Tom Carlisle, dual regisatered from Worcester Warriors, whose good all-round play was matched by accurate goal kicking as he put over seven conversions – and scored the seventh try. Another debutant, Chester centre Lloyd Hayes, also looked promising; he scored Rotherham’s fifth try.

Codling was also pleased with the contribution of Scottish second row Neale Patrick, making his first appearance since the end of September.
