Rotherham United v Aldershot: Supporters pitch in to help game go ahead

League two: ROTHERHAM United have praised the unstinting efforts of their fans after they helped ensure today's game at Don Valley Stadium is played.

The club yesterday confirmed the League Two contest with Aldershot would take place following a plea to supporters to help clear snow off the pitch in Sheffield.

Rotherham had already seen last week's game at Gillingham frozen off and, mindful of last winter's horrendous run when they went more than five weeks without a fixture, were desperate to avoid a successive postponement.

But Ronnie Moore will now be able to send his side out and chief operating officer Paul Douglas admitted: "We were extremely keen to ensure the game went ahead.

"Now, thanks to the hard work of our volunteers and our dedicated groundstaff, the snow was cleared and the pitch looks in good condition."

Captain Ryan Cresswell returns, meanwhile, insisting his recent back problem is now "fine."
