Ruby gives his verdict on the big three rides

KAUTO STAR: “Watch the video of the 2009 Gold Cup. Sam (Thomas) came upsides on Denman and I thought they might have us. Look for the acceleration as we round the home turn. We were neck-and-neck turning in, but Kauto was five lengths clear jumping the fence. That was the real Kauto. An extraordinary horse. Can he do it again? I hope so.”

MASTER MINDED: “Winning his first Champion Chase in 2008 when the race was put back a day because of high wind was the best performance of any horse I’ve ridden. I didn’t expect it; nobody did. The funny thing is that I nearly rode stablemate Twist Magic. I knew Master Minded but a five-year-old winning the Queen Mother by a mile – it is not supposed to happen.”

BIG BUCK’S (pictured below): “You have to be alert because he does nothing in front. Last year he sauntered round and blew them away. I love riding him. You always have to be thinking, though, he’s no armchair ride. You need to position yourself so you have a horse to aim at.”
