Axed Moore quickly snapped up for return to Huddersfield

SUPER League leaders Huddersfield Giants have signed hooker Scott Moore just one week after he was sacked by Widnes Vikings.

Moore, 24, who played for the Giants on loan from St Helens in 2009, left the Vikings after an unspecified breach of discipline.

He has signed a deal which will see him stay with the Giants until the end of the season.

Moore, who became Super League’s youngest player of all time when he made his debut at 16 for St Helens, signed for Widnes on a three-year contract last October.

But he was suspended after playing only two games for the Vikings due to an unspecified incident, and has played seven games for the Lancashire side this season.

Giants coach Nathan Brown said: “Scotty was great for us in my first year here and it will be good to get him back into our environment. He has had a well-documented path since and this is a great chance for him to start afresh in a new town and team.”

Moore will fill a gap created by Shaun Lunt, who is to leave the club on loan in order for the club’s salary cap to be met.

Leeds Rhinos hooker Rob Burrow could be fit to play against Catalan Dragons on Friday, depending on the results of a scan on his damaged cheekbone.

Leeds coach Brian McDermott said: “The swelling has gone down considerably, which suggests he’s not broken it, but they haven’t been able to do an accurate scan with all the swelling.

“Even if there is a crack in it and it’s not displaced, he might be able to play on Friday.”

Castleford Tigers’ Rangi Chase has been handed a three-match ban for the challenge that left Featherstone Rovers’ winger Tangi Ropati with a broken jaw.

Chase was ordered to face the RFL’s disciplinary commitee after being put on report during Castleford’s 23-16 Challenge Cup fifth-round defeat on Saturday.

He was last night found guilty of the grade C offence at a hearing in Leeds and was given a £300 fine in addition to a three-game ban.

Former Sheffield three-quarter Ropati has had his jaw plated after breaking it in two places and is facing a lay-off of between 10 to 12 weeks.
