Batley Bulldogs 56 Hunslet Hawks 10: Moore and Black put Hunslet to the sword

Livewire scrum-half Gareth Moore rattled up a total of 24 points as Batley notched their highest score of the season against Hunslet Hawks.

And he was aided by team-mates Ben Black and Jason Walton who each scored a hat-trick of tries.

Moore got a well-deserved try in each half, and added eight out of 10 conversions.

Black started the rout by backing up surges from centre Walton and wingman Gareth Potts to score after four minutes, and seven minutes later completely mesmerised the Hawks’ defence to touch down again.

Moore added his try and Walton also got over the line to bring up a 22-0 half-time lead after which Batley faced playing up the Mount Pleasant slope.

If anything the incline seemed to inspire them towards slicker open play and quick hands, darting runs and opportunism saw the Bulldogs rattle up four more tries in the next quarter, two from Walton and one each from Brown and Black.

The Hawks were far from downhearted and with splendid play from David March, John Oakes and Andy Yates they hit back in style to score 10 points in three minutes thanks to touchdowns from Yates and Tommy Haughley.

Hard-working prop Ryan Benjafield also produced a long storming run upfield which deserved a better ending while hooker Luke Haigh was held up over the line.

The spirited revival shook the Bulldogs who re-asserted themselves as Moore raced over for his second try and second rower Alex Bretherton also touched down in the final three minutes.
