Batley Bulldogs 70 Leeds Metro University 6: Moore gains share of Batley landmark

Lively scrum-half Gareth Moore equalled a Batley points scoring record as he collected two tries and landed 11 goals against the Leeds amateurs.

Continually in support of the action, he benefited from a charge by prop David Toothill to scamper 50 metres for his first touchdown shortly after the break and used sheer determination to evade four tacklers as he grabbed his second shortly before the end.

But it was his outstanding goalkicking as he notched ll conversions from 12 attempts from all parts of the ground which helped him equal the record for the most individual points in a game which was set by Simon Wilson against Leigh in 1995.

A more instant impact, however, came from substitute wingman Lee Greenwood who arrived on the field only three minutes from time but still scored two tries.

He was on hand to finish off a three-man move shortly after stepping onto the pitch and from the re-start took advantage of fine intuitive play by Ashley Lindsay to finish off a four-man move with a try in the corner just moments after the hooter sounded

But Batley did not have it all their own way. Despite being outpowered and outplayed in many departments the University team never took a backward step.

Centre Nick Walker and second row Kristian Hodson shone throughout with the latter claiming the University's only try by supporting some typically imaginative play from stand-off Jamel Coleman to cross for a try converted by Nigel Scott.
