Blame is partly mine, says honest Anderson

They host Catalan Dragons at the newly-titled John Smith’s Stadium tomorrow in desperate need of a win after losing nine of their last 10 games.

Anderson has yet to taste victory himself as he approaches his third fixture since taking over from the sacked Nathan Brown.

“Maybe I have been guilty of letting the players down in looking at the bigger picture rather than the finer detail,” he said.

“I hold my hands up to that. One thing is, regardless of where you are in the table or what form you are in, you can’t lose sight of the smaller things in the game.

“We have now tried to highlight some of the real basic things that we have been letting ourselves down on.”

Huddersfield’s hopes of a revival are improved with the return of outside backs Jermaine McGillvary and Aaron Murphy, while Anderson has dropped ex-England hooker Scott Moore.

Meanwhile, Giants managing director Richard Thewlis says the signing of highly-rated Widnes Vikings prop Anthony Mullally will not be the last new arrival for 2013 – especially if Bradford Bulls’ precarious position continues to deteriorate.

“We do hope to be able to add more new faces into the squad next year,” he said, Brett Ferres having joined from Castleford.

“But it should be remembered that we have already given extended and improved long-term contracts to the vast majority of our younger players which given the low numbers of quality players available in the game can now clearly be seen to have been the right policy.

“Obviously, though, the situation at Bradford could dramatically change the player market and I am sure that all clubs are watching how things will unfold there.”
