Bradford, who travel to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats next Saturday for the million pound promotion match, led 18-16 at the break, but were outscored 32-0 in the second half.

Halifax are set to finish sixth in the Qualifiers, a place above Leigh Centurions, unless the Championship league winners can pull off a big win at Widnes Vikings on Sunday.

Ste Tyrer scored 24 points from a hat-trick of tries and six goals, outstanding half-back Ben Johnston and fellow ex-Castleford man Tommy Saxton both bagged a brace and Dane Manning, Adam Tangata and Ben Heaton completed the rout.

Full-back Ryan Shaw scored two tries and three goals for Bradford, after Matty Ryan had touched down to give them an early lead.

Bradford’s injured captain Chev Walker, who is retiring at the end of the nseason, said: “It was really poor, there was a lack of effort and that’s not us.

“We were off and that’s a bit scary for next week, but we had a lot of players missing and I am confident we can turn it around.”

Halifax will gain extra funding if they finish sixth and boss Richard Marshall said: “That’s the main benefit for us.

“We aren’t in the financial league of Leigh and Bradford, but to finish the season in that style and fashion was outstanding from the team.

“I amm really proud of them.”
