Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell pays the penalty for verbal attack on Ben Thaler as Wigan duo cleared

Powell accused Grand Final referee Ben Thaler of losing his cool after his side suffered a 33-26 defeat by Wigan last month.

Powell, who anticipated the punishment after speaking out in the Tigers’ post-match press conference, has been fined £500 and warned as to his future conduct after being found guilty of improper conduct.

Half the fine is suspended until the end of the 2017 season and Powell has 14 days in which to submit an appeal.

Paul Anderson (Huddersfield) and Denis Betts (Widnes) have also been fined this season for publicly criticising a referee.

Wigan pair Josh Charnley and Joel Tomkins have been cleared by the RFL match review panel to play in tomorrow’s Super League game at Widnes.

They were charged with a dangerous throw on former team-mate James Greenwood during the 20-18 win over Hull KR but have been told they will face no further action after admitting the grade A offence.

Catalans’ Justin Horo escaped a ban after submitting an early guilty plea to a grade A dangerous tackle on Adam Swift during the 33-16 win over St Helens.

The panel issued cautions to St Helens captain Jon Wilkin for a tripping offence and to Huddersfield forward Oliver Roberts for a dangerous throw.
