Changes likely as Millward seeks quick reaction

CASTLEFORD Tigers coach Ian Millward will hope the return of Ryan McGoldrick and Josh Griffin restores some much-needed order to his three-quarters tonight.

The Australian was scathing of his outside backs following last Saturday’s 32-26 defeat to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats so it will be no surprise to see the duo instantly recalled to the starting line-up at Odsal.

Utility-back McGoldrick has served a two-game suspension, while ex-Wakefield wing Griffin was left out at Magic Weekend.

However, the likes of wideman Nick Youngquest and centre Jordan Thompson were among those who struggled in the loss and could now be axed for the trip to Bradford.

Australian McGoldrick will certainly add experience and flair to the three-quarter line wherever Millward opts to use him while powerful finisher Griffin – who enjoyed a prolific start to his Castleford career earlier this term – will offer a more robust approach out wide.

There is no place, once again, for Ryan Hudson or Jake Emmitt in the visitors’ side while Millward will look for a more polished performance from Man of Steel Rangi Chase on his second game back following a six-week absence.

On-loan Warrington Wolves winger Rhys Williams is expected to retain his spot after a difficult debut in Manchester, while prop Paul Jackson deservedly earned praise after successfully coming through his first game in 10 months.

After a record-breaking Super League defeat at Hull KR, Castleford did show some signs of improvement against Wakefield while, last time out, Bradford were outdone by Danny McGuire’s five tries as they lost against Leeds.

Millward added: “It should be good against Bradford.

“They’re playing well and it’s a good test for us but we’re going into the game with some confidence after our better performance at the weekend.

“If you take Danny McGuire out of the Leeds team it would have probably been a different game last weekend when they ran the Rhinos closer than the final score (37-22).

“We were close against Bradford at our ground earlier in the season.

“There wasn’t much in it that time and we can put up that same effort and better execution we can win.”
