Cudjoe and McGuire escape bans but Paterson suspended

Huddersfield’s England centre Leroy Cudjoe has been cleared to make his 50th consecutive appearance for the Giants at Widnes on Friday after avoiding suspension.

Cudjoe was charged with a grade A offence of punching during his side’s 24-8 Tetley’s Challenge Cup fifth-round tie win over Leeds last Saturday but was able to submit an early-guilty plea and avoid a ban.

Cudjoe’s co-centre Joe Wardle has been handed a two-match ban after submitting an early-guilty plea following his sending-off against the Rhinos. Wardle was sent off for the first time in his career and charged with a grade C offence.

Cudjoe, who has not missed a Huddersfield game since September 2011, was charged after coming to blows with Rhinos half-back Danny McGuire, who also avoided a ban when he appeared in front of the disciplinary panel.

McGuire was fined £300 and given a warning, leaving him free to face St Helens at Headingley next Monday night.

Hull KR’s Australian forward Cory Paterson has been banned for four games after being found guilty of a grade D reckless strike on Wigan stand-off Blake Green during his side’s 46-14 cup defeat by the Warriors.

England forward Gareth Hock was also given a four-match ban for making deliberate physical contact with a referee.

The kick-off for Catalan Dragons’ home game against Castleford in Perpignan on Saturday has been changed for a second time following a request by the Tigers. Castleford objected to the Rugby Football League’s decision to bring the game forward by three hours to 2pm GMT to accommodate French television and it has now been put back to 3pm.

Hull’s long search for a scrum-half ended yesterday when they completed the signing of Australian Jacob Miller on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

The Black and Whites tried to sign the 20-year-old Wests Tigers player before the season, but have finally got their man.
