Depleted Dewsbury offer little resistance as Broncos march on

London coach Rob Powell has his eyes on a Challenge Cup run after seeing his side brush aside Dewsbury 72-4 at the Stoop.

The Broncos ran in 13 tries as they dominated from start to finish, casting aside their poor Super League form to punish the part-timers.

And, having failed to progress past the fifth round since 2007, Powell has a route Wembley on his mind this time around.

He said: “It has been a long time since this club had a good cup run. With the Challenge Cup you get a couple of wins and suddenly you are in the semi-finals.

“We had nine Londoners out there today and they know what a good run would mean to the club.”

It was all too easy for the London side as the bossed their Championship rivals right from the off.

There were six tries in the first half, with Antonio Kaufusi, Kieran Dixon (two), Chad Randall, Dan Sarginson and Luke Dorn ending the game as a contest by the break.

But the hosts kept their foot on the gas after the interval, with Michael Witt and Jamie O’Callaghan adding braces, along with further scores from Chris Bailey, Kaufusi and Matt Cook rounding off the home scoring.

The Rams did get some reward when Jamaine Akaidere crossed in the corner just after the hour mark.

Dewsbury coach Warren Jowitt, who made eight changes for the clash, admitted it had been a bridge too far for his troops.

He said: “We have to be realistic and it was always going to be difficult for us to come here and get a result.

“We are not a Featherstone or a side like that, somebody who can steal a result against a Super League team.

“We had a young side out there today and I thought we had a good crack.

“The league is obviously the more important competition for us and hopefully scoring a try near the end will give us that bit of confidence to take forward.”
