Dewsbury 16 Halifax 46: Halifax open up three-point gap over beaten hosts Dewsbury

Victory left Richard Marshall’s side three points clear of their hosts, who were never really at the races against a Halifax team who have now won their last four matches, all away from home.

The visitors had drawn first blood, the Australian prop Mitch Cahalane touching down from a short Ben Kaye pass and centre Steve Tyrer converting.

And a 6-0 lead doubled when back rower Dane Manning took a Tyrer tap-down on the left to bag his side’s second.

Captain Scott Murrell then set winger Gareth Potts free down the right flank before backing up on the inside to touchdown, Tyrer on target again for an 18-0 lead.

The Rams came back into the contest when replacement Toby Adamson touched down, Keiron Hyde tagging on the goal, before Anthony Thackeray supported a Nathan Conroy break to score, Hyde making it 18-12 with the conversion.

But Halifax had the last word before the break, Potts again outstripping the defence before putting Manning in for his second of the game, Tyrer’s touchline kick making it 24-12 at the break.

The visitors ended whatever doubt there was about the final result early in the second half, with Ben Johnston and Ross Divorty both scoring to take their advantage out to 34-12.

Jason Crookes’s try briefly staunched the flow of points at the other end, but there was no stopping the visitors as Murrell and Cahalane sealed victory for Halifax.
