Dewsbury Rams 24 Halifax 34: Late burst enough for Halifax to steal win

Warren Jowitt’s clearly fired-up Rams headed into the interval boasting a narrow two-point advantage.

Despite the Tetley’s Stadium outfit leading by a converted try with less than 20 minutes remaining, the away side’s quality prevailed.

The hosts dominated the opening exchanges but were unable to convert possession into points.

As a result, Halifax hit the front through prop Sam Barlow, whose try was converted by centre Lee Paterson.

Dewsbury hit back when Steve Crossley remarkably pounced on a Patch Walker grubber as three Halifax defenders looked on in disbelief. Walker’s boot edged the Rams ahead by two before a James Craven effort was confirmed by the video referee.

Trailing 14-6, Sean Hesketh handed his side a lifeline. Jim Gannon then put Halifax into the lead, bundling over from close range.

The Rams responded following an incredible stroke of luck.A Walker chip cannoned back off the crossbar, the ball bouncing into the path of Elliott Cosgrove to touch down. The Rams moved further ahead with a try in the corner by Austin Buchanan.

But Halifax crossed the whitewash three times late on through Adam Robinson, Anthony Bowman and Sean Penkywicz.
