Doncaster 12 Sheffield Eagles 56: Brambani sparkles as Eagles run in 10 tries against Doncaster

Sheffield Eagles completely out-played their South Yorkshire rivals Doncaster with a sparkling 10-try display to clinch a place in the Northern Rail Cup quarter-finals.

Doncaster started and finished strongly but in between they were outclassed as Sheffield dominated every facet of the game.

Dominic Brambani was outstanding at scrum-half and Sheffield were also well served by loose forward Joe Hirst and halfback Simon Brown in an impressive team performance.

There was little sign of what was to come as Eagles only led by six points in a closely contested first quarter.

Lee Waterman was halted just short of the line in Doncaster’s first attack before Nev Morrison touched down in the corner for the visitors after just eight minutes.

It was not until the 19th minute that Sheffield increased their lead with Hirst scoring a try following a brilliant run from the impressive Brambani.

But after that the floodgates opened as the Dons appeared to cave in with Sheffield scoring five tries in 16 minutes.

A slick passing move led to Hirst touching down again after 22 minutes and Alex Szostak raced through two minutes later.

Misi Taulapapa, Quentin Laulu-Togagoe and Mitchell Stringer added further first-half tries to leave Doncaster trailing 40-0 at the interval.

Two tries from Brambani and another from Laulu-Togagoe early in the second half left Sheffield in cruise control at 56-0 ahead with Brown kicking a total of eight goals before Doncaster cashed in as the visitors eased off in the closing stages.

Grant Edwards and Dean Colton touched down for the hardworking home side who battled to the finish but by then the game was over as a contest.
