Doncaster 34 Thatto Heath 22: Ely leads home Doncaster as Heath go out

Last year’s humiliating defeat by Siddal seemed to weigh on Doncaster’s minds as they won in far from convincing fashion.

National Conference leaders Thatto Heath set the home side’s nerves jangling when Darren Woods scored the first of a hat-trick of tries in the second minute with a penalty from Shaun Quinn giving them a 6-0 lead.

It was not until the 20th minute that Doncaster levelled when Jack Ely wriggled over the line and Scott Spaven added the points.

Further tries from Stewart Sanderson and Kyle Kesik gave the Dons an 18-12 interval lead with Dean Colton, Mick Butterfield and Jamie Vovill touching down in the second half.

Thatto battled back with Chris Frodsham’s 66th-minute try but Doncaster never looked like letting their advantage slip.
