Faal double helps see Rams to comfortable victory over Knights

Ayden Faal bagged a try in each half as Dewsbury Rams stated their intent for 2012 with a convincing victory over York City Knights.

The Rams ended the first half 12 points to the good and despite being pegged back after the break, they showed terrific composure in order to claim three welcome points.

Scott Spaven and Patch Walker were tremendous from the outset and their input led to the hosts’ first two tries, which came courtesy of Austin Buchanan and Faal respectively.

Patch Walker landed one of the two conversion attempts before drawing a massive cheer when he slotted an incredible penalty from inside his own half on the stroke of half-time.

The away side, who had shown promising signs of a comeback just before the break, continued in the same vein after the restart and were first across the whitewash through the industrious Tom Bush, who broke free nefore racing 30 metres before crossing the line.

Warren Jowitt’s Rams responded superbly though, with Dwayne Barker and Faal scoring tries with Walker adding both conversions to make it a comfortable 24-4 lead with only 12 minutes left on the clock.

But the visitors were given hope when Rams substitute Billy Harris coughed up possession in the closing stages of the game and York winger Dave Sutton was quickest to react to go over in the corner.

His effort was all but wiped out, however, when Josh Tonks raced across the line in the dying minutes, sending the home crowd into raptures over a convincing victory.
