Giants chief wary of threat from Broncos’ Gower

They head to the capital tomorrow bidding to make an immediate response after a first defeat of the season to early leaders Warrington Wolves.

Given such a track record – eight consecutive victories over London’s previous incarnation Harlequins – and their hosts’ winless start it should be the perfect opportunity to restore order.

Rob Powell’s team, who floundered in 12th last season, are seeking to avoid a fourth straight Super League loss but Brown believes they should not be under-estimated.

“It is by far the most talented London side I’ve seen since I’ve been here,” insisted the Australian, who arrived in 2008 and this week refused to rule out a move to St Helens when his Giants contract expires in October.

“There are a lot of new players at the club so they are probably still learning a lot about each other.”

He highlighted Craig Gower, 35, as a potential source of discomfort for his side, the former Australia Test scrum-half who has returned to the code after a spell in Italian rugby union.

If Huddersfield are serious about developing as a genuine title contender, though, this is just the sort of fixture they cannot lose.

They fell short against Warrington a week ago, ruing missed opportunities to capitalise against the side who ruthlessly dumped them out of the play-offs last year.

After an impressive win at Wigan and comprehensive defeat of Widnes, though, Brown maintains there has been no drama at the Galpharm following their first reverse.

“We have got to build and keep improving,” he said.

“That is the key for this week. We have won two from three and played two teams who are predicted to be in the top two of the competition, winning against one and losing the other.

“But we’ll have got a lot of confidence out of that despite the defeat; if you put the Warrington game into context it could have gone either way.”

Michael Lawrence and Shaun Lunt are set to return for Huddersfield in place of the injured Dale Ferguson and suspended Tommy Lee while Aaron Murphy and Larne Patrick could yet feature, Adam Walker missing out.
