Griffin and Hand bolster Trinity squad

The problems were so severe that assistant coach Lee Gilmour, the ex-Great Britain second-row who turned 37 last week and hasn’t played since last year, has been readying himself in training for a possible comeback.

The midweek loan capture, therefore, of Salford Red Devils back-row George Griffin, 22, and St Helens prop Jordan Hand, 21, has been well received as the West Yorkshire club desperately looks for its first win in four games.

They are both named in the 19-man squad and should debut with pack members Scott Anderson, Matty Ashurst, Lopini Paea, Chris Annakin and Ian Kirke all absent.

“We are short of forwards – and we will be able to field a team now,” said Webster.

“They will bring some enthusiasm, they are looking for a start and that’s the bonus of having people on loan.

“They are coming for minutes (on the field), they are here for the right reasons.

“George has played a lot of Super League for his age and Jordan comes highly-recommended by Saints.

“He played against us last year and did a good job, so we’ve brought in two good players. What’s letting us down is our execution and ball retention and we need to improve that.”

Webster, meanwhile, says Gilmour is “keen” to play again and is likely to help out after the busy Easter period.

In the meantime, ex-Hull FC centre Joe Arundel will debut tomorrow in place of the injured Reece Lyne while Jarrod Sammut is also in the 19-man squad with Pita Godinet injured.

Giants bring in forwards Chris Bailey and Anthony Mullally for second-row Jack Hughes and Jake Connor.
