Halifax in 17-try romp over Myton

HALIFAX join the big names of Super League in the hat for tonight’s fourth round Challenge Cup draw after a clinical 17-try demolition of National Conference amateurs Myton.

On a warm afternoon, Karl Harrison’s side were unsurprisingly far too hot for the amateurs to handle, running in 17 tries and setting a new record for the club’s biggest winning margin, eclipsing the 88-6 win over Workington during Matt Calland’s reign.

The only blip on the records front was that Lee Paterson found himself falling agonisingly short – not for the first time in his five-year career with the club, it has to be said – of Bruce Burton’s 30-year-old goals-in-a-game record of 14, the Lancashire-based threequarter finishing on an unlucky 13.

Myton actually had what looked to be a perfectly good try ruled out in the opening minutes of the encounter, winger Lee James chasing hard down the left and touching down, but referee Jamie Callaghan pulled the amateurs back for offside.

Fax were ahead seconds afterwards, Anthony Bowman bringing White into play and last season’s top try scorer rounding the Myton defence on the touchline to score.

It was then a case of how many points Halifax would score with White grabbing a brace, along with Sam Barlow, Craig Ashall and Wayne Reittie.

Further Halifax tries came from Dane Manning, Rob Worrincy, Anthony Bowman, Joe Chandler, Anthony Thackery, Steve Tyrer, Callum Casey, Lee Patterson and Josh Barlow.

North Wales Crusaders beat Toulouse 24-10, Danny Hulme scored a hat-trick for the Welsh side, who ran in seven tries.
