Halifax 24 Hunslet Hawks 18: White denies Hunslet as Halifax snatch win

A STUNNING last-play try from winger Paul White saw Halifax make it a hat-trick of Co-operative Championship wins against a determined Hunslet side.

The scores were locked 18-18 when White stormed on to a Miles Greenwood off-load after slick handling from Ben Black and Bob Beswick had put the full-back into space.

Defeat was cruel on the Hawks, who had led twice in the second half – at 14-10 and then 18-16 – as they looked to break a five-game losing streak.

But for Fax, who again showed genuine composure and patience, victory was the perfect filip ahead of next week’s Northern Rail Cup semi-final at Featherstone.

Danny Ratcliffe’s 75th-minute try put the Hawks 18-16 in front but Danny Jones levelled the scores with a penalty before White snatched the spoils.

Jacob Fairbank, Ben Black and Rob Worrincy scored Halifax’s other tries while Danny Grimshaw, player-coach Paul March and Dennis Tuffour touched down for the visitors.
