Hawks part-timers splash out on hotel to prepare for Scorpions trip

HUNSLET HAWKS are doing everything they can in their pursuit of Co-operative Championship One top spot including booking a hotel in Wales.

Player-coach Paul March's squad face joint-leaders South Wales Scorpions in Bridgend today and the part-time South Leeds club are sparing no expense.

"We're going down this afternoon and staying overnight so we're preparing well," said March yesterday.

"We've a good group of players who believe we can achieve something this year.

"We set goals and one was to get two wins over Easter. We're halfway there."

Hunslet romped to a 54-12 triumph over Doncaster on Friday with centre Wayne McHugh scoring a hat-trick on his return from injury and ex-York scrum-half Danny Grimshaw delivering one of his best performances yet in a Hunslet jersey.

But they will face a far sterner test today with March admitting: "South Wales have had some good results and they haven't had a fixture yet over the Bank Holiday.

"They will be strong at home but if we concentrate on our performance and play like we have been doing these last few weeks we should come away with it."

His brother David March and Richard Chapman are both back from suspension while prop Adam Sullivan is fit again to bolster Hunslet's options.

March's former club York currently lead the table over South Wales on points difference but have played an extra game and also face a tricky trip this afternoon to Blackpool Panthers who boast a 100 per cent record.

Doncaster harbour high hopes of picking up their second win when they entertain London Skolars who have lost all five of their fixtures so far.
