Coach Daryl Powell says Castleford Tigers have rediscovered their “ability to function as a team” as they prepare for tomorrow’s game at Hull FC.

They have won just once since lockdown ended at the start of August and saw their last game at Leeds Rhinos called off as they were unable to raise a team.

Tigers were beset by injuries and Covid issues and have not played since a 32-28 home defeat to Hull more than a fortnight ago.

However, Powell hopes to have half-backs Jake Trueman and Danny Richardson back from injury which would be a real boost for their side.

They have been playing with makeshift halves for weeks and it is perhaps no surprise they have tumbled from second to eighth.

“Tuesday was hard work because we didn’t have our test results back,” said Powell.

“The training was limited, but we trained Thursday and the boys looked good. Jake Trueman and Danny Richardson trained for the first time for a fair few weeks so hopefully they will come through, but we have got a lot of outside-backs still missing.

“That’s a bit of an issue, but we are all right; we’ve got our ability to function as a team back. It has been a tough period for us, but the spirits are good and they are training well. There’s a good intent about us, we are working hard and we are not far off. We just need a result that will get us kick-started a little bit.”

Jesse Sene-Lefao is included in Tigers’ 21-man squad after injury and youngsters Brad Graham and Bailey Richardson could debut.

Derrell Olpherts, James Clare, Greg Eden, Calum Turner and Dan Fleming drop out from the squad named to face Leeds.
