Hull FC v Huddersfield: Return of key players is timely lift – Radford

Head coach Lee Radford says Hull FC derailing Huddersfield Giants tonight would be a “great scalp” for his squad.

The Black and Whites face their third-placed opponents knowing their own hopes of reaching the Super League semi-finals disappeared weeks ago.

However, that has not sated their appetite for success, shown when Radford’s injury-ravaged side almost caused a shock at high-flying Wigan last Friday.

“We are playing a team that are full of beans,” he said.

“Everything I read talks about them being the real deal this year.

“It would be a great scalp to take for us. Danny (Brough) is great for Huddersfield but he can’t play behind a beaten park.

“They are low risk out of their own half and rely heavily on the distance both Danny and Jamie Ellis can kick.

“They are a percentages type of team; we have to make sure we stay in the arm wrestle and don’t make errors.

“We have two home games and want to end the campaign on a high. We showed commitment to each other last Friday and the challenge is to replicate that.”

Hull round off against Catalans next Sunday but are heartened by the return tonight of a raft of players, including ex-Great Britain stand-off Leon Pryce, who has been sidelined since injuring his shoulder at Hull KR in July.

Radford said: “To have Leon, Kirk (Yeaman), Jordan (Thompson) and Josh (Bowden) back out on the field is a massive bonus.

“Leon’s diagnosis wasn’t as bad as first feared in the end. He’s been dominating in rehab and been determined to get out on the field before the end of the season.

“Kirk and Josh can’t wait to see the back end of this year because of injuries, and they really want to end the season with two solid performances as well.”
