The Scotland centre chalked up his 100th game for the West Yorkshire club in Good Friday’s disappointing 18-12 home defeat to Salford Red Devils.

That was Huddersfield’s first loss in five games, something they will look to atone immediately for this afternoon.

They made 14 handling errors against Salford, which is unusual, but Wardle, 23, said: “I don’t know. I think our attack has been a bit poor as of late anyway.

“We’ve been basing our games on defence and getting through on that. I think it’s something we need to fix up sharply; 14 errors is far too many if you’re going to give yourself a chance to win.

“It was a bad game overall. We just didn’t start well but fair play to Salford.

“They stuck in there, rattled us a bit and stuck to the game plan to get on top.

“We have to fix it up and the lucky thing for us it’s such a short turnaround.

“We’ve been back in to sort things out that went wrong and get ready for heading to Hull KR.”

Wardle, who joined from Bradford Bulls in 2011, knows this afternoon’s opponents are in form, given they defeated champions St Helens before ruthlessly picking apart derby rivals Hull FC on Thursday.

“They seem to be going from strength to strength,” added Wardle.

“And it is always a tough place to go is Hull KR so it’ll be a tough challenge. We’ve cracked on, though, and, hopefully, we’ll go all right.”

The game sees a quick reunion with his former club for Shaun Lunt, the ex-England hooker who left on a season-long loan last month.

“Lunty’s a good bloke and we’ve got to be careful as he is dangerous,” said Wardle.

“We’re treating him just like anyone else though and we’ll go get stuck into him – and have a good laugh afterwards.”
