Hunslet 6 Workington 30: Hawks unable to halt their long losing run

The two sides went into this relegation dogfight with contrasting form with Workington looking to make it three wins in a row whereas Hunslet were hoping to end their nine-game losing streak.

Despite Danny Grimshaw dropping out during the warm up for the home side, Barry Eaton’s players came out all guns blazing. Ansell’s bomb was palmed back by Mo Agoro to Callum Casey who then offloaded to Liam Mackay, the Hunslet loose forward making no mistake.

Workington were sgifting possession to their opponents on a number of occasions but were back level when – with Hunslet pressing for a second score – Jarrod Sammut picked Jimmy Watson’s pass out of the air and the on-loan Wakefield star had a simple 80m stroll up field.

Four minutes following a high tackle on Jarrad Stack, Workington shifted the ball out wide and Sammut’s inch perfect grubber to the corner was pounced on by Elliott Miller.

Three minutes into the second half, Sammut’s grubber kick split the Hawks’ defence and winger Brett Carter had no problem making it 18-­6.

The visitors put the result beyond any doubt five minutes before the end when Carter scored his second try. Jack Murphy completed the scoring with a 60m effort.
