Hunslet Hawks 30 Whitehaven 0: Rhinos centre Keinhorst and Bush double up for Hawks

TOM Bush and Jimmy Keinhorst each grabbed a brace of tries as dominant Hunslet completed a second successive victory and nilled their Cumbrian visitors.

Both sides were understandably guilty of handling errors in the cold, blustery and greasy conditions, with the opening 20 minutes especially scrappy. Eventually, swift passing gave Hunslet the extra man and winger Bush went over in the right corner, captain Luke Helliwell adding the goal.

Full-back Jimmy Watson repeatedly joined the Hawks’ attack to telling effect but it was a shrewd kick by Helliwell that brought a second try for Bush on the half hour, Helliwell again converting from the touchline.

Whitehaven should have registered their first points but winger Craig Calvert couldn’t hold Jessie Joe Parker’s pass with the line at his mercy and the Hawks extended their lead to 18-0 on the stroke of half-time. Dual-registered centre Keinhorst supported a splendid break by Mitch Achurch to score near the posts, Helliwell adding the goal.

Hunslet monopolised possession, Paul Hughes and Achurch driving over for unconverted tries. Whitehaven’s Carl Sice raced through to the posts, only to be recalled for an offence, and the impressive Tommy Haughey then sent in Keinhorst for his second.
