Jake Connor snubs Hull FC and opts to stay with Huddersfield Giants

The utility back, 21, had agreed a two-year contract with the East Yorkshire club starting next season.

Huddersfield were furious as the first they heard of the planned move was via Hull’s press release on June 18.

Connor was due to be out of contract at the end of this season, but had been offered an improved deal by Giants who would, therefore, have been entitled to a compensation sum.

No such fee had been discussed by Hull, however, adding to the growing irritation felt by their rivals.

However, The Yorkshire Post understands the former England Academy international – one of the competition’s leading young talents – has now had a change of heart and, given his agreement with Hull was not legally binding, will extend his stay at John Smith’s Stadium afterall.

It is a major boost for the Fartowners – who are struggling at the wrong end of the table – given Connor’s obvious talent and the fact they see him as a big part of their future.

Ironically, the youngster, who progressed through Huddersfield’s academy, earned man-of-the-match as joint-bottom Giants stunned Hull in Thursday’s 22-12 victory, ending their opponents’ 10-game winning run.

He played full-back that night, in place of the injured Scott Grix, and sees that as his long-term position although he can operate at wing, centre and half-back, too.

Halifax-born Connor made is enjoy his best season to date having scored 10 tries in 21 games so far.

He made his Super League debut for Huddersfield aged 18 in 2013.
