Kear calls for Batley to improve focus

championship: Batley Bulldogs coach John Kear has urged his side to improve their concentration levels when they host Championship leaders Halifax tomorrow.

The Bulldogs went down 31-24 against Featherstone Rovers last week and now face rampant opponents who have already scored 259 points in just seven league fixtures so far.

Kear said: “We perhaps could have won (against Featherstone) but couldn’t close the game out.

Halifax are a very good attacking side and we need to fix up a couple of defensive misses on our edges.”

Halifax coach Karl Harrison, who Kear succeeded at Batley last autumn, is excited by his first return to Mount Pleasant.

He helped them win the Northern Rail Cup in 2010 and said: “I had two and a half great years at Batley and I’m looking forward to locking horns with John Kear again. But we want to be the best defensive team in the competition. That’s what will get you to the Grand Final.”
