Keighley Cougars 10 Barrow Raiders 40: Rooney shows class to hurt poor Cougars

KEIGHLEY slipped to their seventh defeat in nine league games after allowing visitors Barrow to rack up an early 30-0 lead.

Former Wakefield Trinity star Jamie Rooney scored and followed up with a conversion, before kicking the extras for Liam Campbell's try.

Rooney and Nathan Mossop then scored in quick succession with both tries converted by Rooney before he again added two points to Campbell's second try of the game.

Gavin Duffy finally put points on the board for the home side with Danny Jones adding the extras, which saw the home side go in at the break 30-6 down.

Daley Williams scored straight into the second half from a grubber kick to give the home fans a glimmer of hope but Jones missed the conversion.

Rooney then goaled Andrew Bracek's try but then missed his first of the day when called upon to convert Andy Ballard's try.

With 10 minutes to go the Cumbrian side lost former Bradford and Harlequins prop Matt James who was stretchered off with a suspected broken leg in his eighth appearance since signing.
