Keighley Cougars 12 Leigh Centurions 34: Keighley improve but Eaton left disappointed by early concessions

Keighley Cougars rallied late on but were unable to save themselves after allowing Leigh Centurions to get on top early on.

It was a better showing than in their previous two games and coach Barry Eaton said: "I am disappointed with the result, but not with the effort and determination. We did gift them 12 points though.

"It was disappointing with the try (conceded) at the end as I really felt as if the boys deserved a bonus point, but it wasn't to be."

First blood went to the visitors as James Taylor and Robbie Paul sent in Martyn Ridyard, Mick Nanyn goaling.

Nanyn himself then went over when Matt Blythe received the ball from a scrum feed and enabled Nanyn to dart over. He goaled his own try for 12-0.

Cougars got on the board as Ryan Benjafield barged his way through to pounce on the loose ball between the uprights. Danny Jones added the extras.

On the last tackle Paul kicked ahead and James Taylor touched down, Nanyn making it three goals from three attempts.

After the break it was the Centurions again who scored first. They were awarded a penalty for offside 10 metres out and opted for the power play. Paul managed to get the ball on the line before he was turned over. Nanyn landed the goal.

Paul was on hand again as he sent the ball to Blythe. Steve Maden was on his right and he sped in at the corner flag.

It was a consolation, but the try of the game came as Jonny Presley made a 60m dash to the line. He probably could have made it over himself but to ensure the four points he released to the supporting George Rayner. Jones tagged on the goal.

Nanyn then bulldozed over from close range for his second try of the afternoon, which he goaled to wrap things up.
