Keighley Cougars 34 Doncaster 6: Cougars forwards lead the way as Doncaster suffer on their travels

KEIGHLEY gave themselves the perfect boost ahead of their make-or-break clash with Swinton by beating Doncaster 34-6 in Championship One.

Having lost second spot to the Dons the previous week, the Cougars responded in ideal fashion to run in seven tries.

Jason Demetriou’s side now go into Thursday’s clash with leaders Swinton looking to stay in the hunt for the Championship One title.

The Lions currently sit eight points clear at the top of the division.

“I thought the attitude of the players was excellent and the desire to defend was also first class,” said player-coach Demetriou.

“I’ve always said when we complete sets and control the ball, our forwards will dominate and we can beat any team and we showed that today.

“We go into Thursday’s game full of confidence.

“It’s a massive game and if we can beat them it will start asking them a few questions.

“If they win the title’s theirs and I’m sure they will have that celebration mentality.”

Cougars edged a tight first half, leading 8-6 at the break thanks to a double from centre Ben Sagar, while Doncaster registered a fortuitous score through Dominic Dee.

But the hosts took command after the break and ran in five unanswered tries to complete a comfortable victory.

Will Cartledge was first to touch down and it was nip and tuck until James Feather struck the killer blow.
