Larder is unfazed by semi-final challenge

HALIFAX captain Dave Larder is confident his side can secure their place in the Championship Grand Final at the first attempt this evening.

They head to table-topping Featherstone Rovers for the qualifying semi-final knowing they have a second chance if they do not overcome Daryl Powell's side.

But Larder, part of a Halifax team looking to avenge last year's Grand Final loss against Barrow, said: "The camp is pretty positive.

"It will be tight and both teams have been in this position before while Featherstone have been the form side of the year."

Featherstone's success in lifting the League Leaders' Shield is reflected in their dominance of the shortlists for the 2010 Championships awards.

Rovers are guaranteed to win the main prize after providing all three players shortlisted for player of the year – Kyle Briggs, Stuart Dickens and Liam Finn.

Zac Hardaker and Sam Smeaton are vying with Batley half-back Gareth Moore for the young player of the year award and Powell is shortlisted for coach of the year, along with Dewsbury's Warren Jowitt and Karl Harrison, who led Batley to Northern Rail Cup glory at Blackpool.
