Lee Radford reveals Golden Point hero Marc Sneyd on baby watch during dramatic win

It was Hull’s first win in four games and Sneyd’s 33rd drop goal for the Black and Whites since joining from Castleford Tigers in 2015.

His 32nd - which broke the record - against Catalans Dragons last week meant nothing in the end as the French side scored in last minute to inflict Hull’s third straight defeat.

But this was the third time Sneyd has helped them to Golden Point victories - and Radford revealed he had extra pressre on his shoulders, too.

“That’s five or six times he’s done that for us now,” he said.

“To be fair, he did exactly the same last week from 45 yards out and it probably didn’t get spoken about because of the last punch at the end.

“To hold the nerves at the end like he has done - with his missus sat waiting to drop and someone else on the phone on the touchline ready to shoot him back to Hull if that’s the case - it shows that not a lot gets to him.”

Hull had been 20-6 ahead at half-time but saw Wakefield fight back three times, levelling the game with the second of Tom Johnstone’s stunning one-handed finishes in the 77th minute.

The visitors were fortunate that Max Jowitt’s touchline conversion attempt just fell wide and Radford admitted: “They don’t make it easy do they.

“Last week the disappointment was huge to lose in the last play of the game like that against Catalans.

“So I was really pleased with the response throughout the game.

“We knew they’d have a period in the second half where everything went their way and it did.

“They had some joy on the back end of that but we did enough to get a result which is something we just fell short of last week.

“I think the group needed it ( a win). I definitely needed it but the group did, too.

“They’ve been working hard and so to get it in that manner was pleasing as well.”

On whether he always feels confident when 29-year-old Sneyd lines up that, he added: “If we get a chance I’m confident.

“Alby (Albert Kelly) looked absolutely gone again that last 10 minutes and to make that carry he did to set up the one-pointer, I think he’s done that running on fumes.

“It makes it all the more special the fact that he’s found some juice there to put us in a point there to put his half-back partner Marc away.”

Sneyd’s drop goal helped beat Trinity at the KCOM Stadium in 2018 and Wakefield boss Chris Chester conceded: “It’s heartbreaking really with the effort they put in, certainly that second 40 minutes.

“It just kind of summed us up that last set. We just continually let Hull FC back into games.

“We put ourselves in good positions to kick on and Reece (Lyne) comes up with an error out of yardage and they score off the back of it.

“There were just some poor tackle selections for those last two tackles for Sneyd’s drop goal. I’m immensely proud of the effort of the players.

“They never give in and put themselves in a good position to go win but also really frustrated that Marc Sneyd’s done us again with a one-pointer.

“We just have to learn from it.”
