Leigh Centurions 6 Dewsbury Rams 30: Rams rescued by the sparkling Brambani

Dewsbury Rams remain in the Championship after a comprehensive defeat of Leigh Centurions. The Rams needed one more win to confirm their league status before a ball was kicked and their five-try effort not only demoralised the Centurions, it relegated Whitehaven in the process.

Star man for the Rams was Dominic Brambani. The former Castleford, Halifax and Sheffield halfback bossed the show and played a part in three of the Rams' five tries in addition to kicking two goals.

After weathering an early storm from Leigh, Dewsbury opened their account on 14 minutes when Alex Bretherton found the quick support of Bryn Powell. Ed Barber ploughed over from close range for Brambani to convert.

Brambani kicked to the corner for a Powell try, then the halfback chipped over for James Craven, followed up in support and linked with Pat Walker for a wonderful try by the posts.

Leading 16-0 at half-time, the Rams turned the screw in the second half as Powell raced away for Walker to goal.

The stand-off then added a penalty after Brambani was roughed up and Leigh looked a distant second best. The hosts pulled a try back through Dave McConnell, converted by Nick Stanton but the Rams finished strongly for Brambani to send Craven in and Walker converted for the big win.
