Leigh East 14 Hunslet Hawks 30: March brothers ensure Hunslet see off Leigh

Hunslet Hawks needed the guile of player-coach Paul March and brother David plus two tries in four minutes midway through the second half from winger Michael Mark to get them through against battling National Conference League leaders Leigh East.

Steve Dooler forced his way over for a try which Wayne McHugh goaled but Leigh winger Andrew Groves went in at the corner for an unimproved try. McHugh, with a penalty, gave Hunslet an 8-4 interval lead.

Within two minutes of the restart Groves scored again, but Paul March responded with a try and McHugh goaled.

Leigh's Ryan Fieldhouse stepped through and Peters's goal made it all-square but then the March brothers set Mark away. Leigh had the outstanding Gary Middlehurst sin-binned and Darren Robinson went in for a confirming try to which McHugh added his fifth goal.
