Matterson to leave Castleford Tigers at end of season

Castleford Tigers head coach Terry Matterson will step down at the end of the season after six years at the helm.

The 44-year-old Australian joined the Tigers in 2005 for the 2006 campaign and has overseen an upturn in fortunes, taking the team from relegation candidates to their current seventh place in the Engage Super League table.

But he said today: “I think it’s time to move on.

“I’ve had a fantastic time at Cas and I’m proud of the growth the club has experienced in my time.

Matterson is expected to return to Australia at the end of the campaign with a view to joining the staff of an NRL club.

Castleford chief executive Richard Wright was full of praise for the outgoing coach.

He said: “Terry has brought a level of professionalism to the club that is required at this level.
