New Leeds Rhinos deal for Brent Webb

LEEDS full-back Brent Webb has agreed a new contract for next season.

The 30-year-old former New Zealand international’s current deal was up at the end of the season and he had been linked with a move to Super League newcomers Widnes.

But Webb, who has been a mainstay of the Rhinos team since joining them from New Zealand Warriors in 2007, says he never wanted to move.

“It is great to have the deal done and now I can look forward to the future,” he said. “Myself and my family are settled here at Leeds, having been here for five years.

“I am still hungry to achieve more success and that was one of the reasons I signed again here at Leeds.

“It was a big decision for me because of the stage I am at in my career but I was thankful when the club offered me a new deal and I am delighted to sign.”

Webb is the most prolific full-back in Leeds’ history, with 73 tries from 122 appearances.

Leeds coach Brian McDermott said: “Brent is one of the smartest players in the game and he is a cog at the heart of what we do as a team.”
