Oldham 0 Featherstone Rovers 68: Rovers romp through after opening flourish

Featherstone Rovers strode to a comprehensive victory at Oldham having got off to a flying start when Tangi Ropati crashed over in the corner following good support work from Andy Kain and Ben Kaye.

Liam Finn missed the conversion by some distance but Rovers increased their advantage after Finn sold Bentley a dummy and burst through before adding the extras himself.

Johnny Grayson then touched down to make it 14-0 after Neil Roden had dropped the ball. Finn did not manage to convert.

Kain capped a fine team move with a try two minutes after the restart, Finn easily adding the goal.

Grayson weaved his way through and Finn did the honours with the kick and almost immediately Ian Hardman followed suit with Finn converting. Greg Worthington made it look easy when he found a gap down the left. Finn’s kick took the score to 38-0.

Just after the hour mark Kain evaded four would-be tacklers to give his side another four points and Finn goaled, as he did after Tommy Saxton’s try through the centre.

With 10 minutes left Saxton turned provider, feeding Finn who beat the chasers and then goaled.

Finn twice repeated this pattern before time ran out, first latching on to Worthington’s clever kick and then shortly afterwards jinking his way over the line.
