Peacock and Webb return for visit of Tigers to Headingley

LEEDS Rhinos welcome back England captain Jamie Peacock and New Zealand star Brent Webb for tomorrow night's clash with Castleford Tigers.

Prop Peacock was rested along with the full-back for last week's opening game at Crusaders but they return for the champions' first home match of the Super League campaign.

Utility forward Ian Kirke drops out of the squad that beat Crusaders 34-6 while Castleford could hand a debut to ex-England Schoolboys international forward John Davies as they start their own season.

Versatile former Halifax player Ryan Clayton injured an arm in training meaning Lock Lane product Davies, who only turned 19 last month, could get an earlier than expected first Super League appearance.

"The return of Peacock and Webb gives Leeds a little bit more strength but the 17 they put out last week was pretty handy," said Castleford coach Terry Matterson, before admitting his disappointment at Clayton's withdrawal.

"Ryan is very unlucky. He's had a very solid off season and was going well.

"He is gutted but should be back in a couple of weeks and I have no qualms about bringing John Davies into the squad.

"At the start of our off-season training we wouldn't have thought that he would be ready but he has gone well in the trial games and done some good work in training."

Second-rower Steve Snitch, their winter recruit from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, is set to make his Tigers bow while fellow new signing Paul Jackson is primed for his 'second' debut having returned from Huddersfield Giants.

Huddersfield, meanwhile, have given utility forward Larne Patrick a two-year contract extension which will keep him with the Giants until 2012.

The 21-year-old England Academy international made just seven appearances in his first season last year but coach Nathan Brown is excited by his potential.

"Giving Larne this deal is fully deserved," said Brown.

"He's a player who has a very bright future, not just at the club but in the English Super League, and we're delighted he's pledged himself to us."

Former Bradford Bulls Academy player Patrick, however, has failed to make Brown's 19-man squad for tomorrow night's game against his former club.

Visitors Bradford include new signings Matt Orford, Glenn Hall, Heath L'Estrange, Brett Kearney and Stuart Reardon while Craig Kopczak, who feared he had broken a leg against Hull KR last Thursday, is also named in Steve McNamara's opening squad.
