Plans unveiled for new South Stand at Headingley

The owners of Carnegie Stadium have released revised plans for the new all-standing South Stand following an initial consultation with planners.

The redevelopment follows a renovation in 2000 at a cost of £1m and further improvements in 2008 costing £250,000.

The new plans, unveiled by Leeds Rugby which consists of league team the Rhinos and union team Carnegie, include increased access for disabled supporters, new changing rooms, better concession areas for fans and new toilets and baby changing facilities as well as an increased capacity to hold an extra 500 spectators.

The club is adamant that when the redevelopment begins at the beginning of next season, providing the application is successful, both Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Carnegie will be able to remain at their home ground.

Commercial director Rob Oates thinks that it will be difficult but manageable.

He said: ‘The redevelopment of the South Stand will present us with a number of challenges but we are confident that we can continue with a reduced capacity next season.’ Should the plans go ahead, South Stand season ticket holders will be contacted with new seating arrangements.

The plans are currently on public view at the Carnegie Cafe Bar and will remain there until the Public Exhibition and Consultation is concluded on April 18.
