Powell rests six of Castleford’s Cup stars

Squad rotation has been a common trait for the Wheldon Road chief so far this season but, with one eye on Wembley in just nine days’ time, he has been extra careful.

Captain Michael Shenton, Man of Steel contender Daryl Clark, Luke Dorn – man-of-the-match in Sunday’s win over Widnes – Kirk Dixon and James Webster have all been left out.

Castleford, of course, could draw level with Super League leaders St Helens if they prosper tomorrow night and Saints lose against Wakefield Trinity but their Challenge Cup final date with Leeds Rhinos clearly remains the priority.

At least one of young trio Will Maher, Jordan Howden and Brad Day is set to debut while rookie Ben Reynolds also comes in and Jordan Tansey and Michael Channing are both set for rare appearances.

Weller Hauraki is in the 19-man squad, too, following a ban and prop Craig Huby visits a specialist today to see if the dislocated elbow he suffered against Widnes is likely to deny him a Wembley place.

Wakefield’s high-class Australian centre Dean Collis is set for his first appearance since May and Daniel Smith and Scott Anderson are also back from injuries in their 19-man squad along with Jon Molloy.

Hull FC second-row Dean Hadley, 22, has extended his contract until the end of 2016.
