Powell wants to see more from Rovers

championship: Unbeaten champions Featherstone Rovers are promising more is still to come as they prepare for tonight’s Grand Final re-match with Sheffield Eagles.

The Championship favourites will be seeking a fourth successive victory but coach Daryl Powell reckons they are still far from their best.

“We’ve managed to win our first three games without really hitting our straps yet,” he said. “It’s in September when that needs to be the case but we’ll get better and we need to as Sheffield are looking good.

“They had a poor result against Halifax (a 50-18 defeat) but they’ve got threats all over the field. We’ll need to be 30 per cent better with the ball to open them up and just as tough defensively.”

Sheffield coach Mark Aston’s biggest concern, though, is his side’s inability to focus.

“We can’t play for little spits and spurts,” he said. “We’ve got to go for the full 80 minutes and we’ve been talking about that for a while. We’ve got to dust ourselves down (from last week’s 50-18 defeat by Halifax) because we’ve got some big games coming up.”
