Rochdale 40 Hunslet 4: Foster sees red as Old Boys suffer

HUNSLET Old Boys battled hard, but a lack of discipline proved their undoing in the Challenge Cup.

Three yellow cards, and a red for Wayne Foster, did not help their cause, neither did a penalty count of 16-6 in the home team’s favour.

Hornets broke the deadlock with early tries from John Cookson and Dave Sutton.

A yellow card for Sam Thorpe on the stroke of half time and three tries early in the second half put the hosts in the driving seat.

Hunslet were down to 11 men when Craig Booth was sent to the sin bin, but full-back Chris Thompson had the vociferous travelling support on their feet as he danced his way through for a try. There was still time for a third yellow, this time Jamie Bradley the recipient, Hornets again taking advantage when Wayne English crossed for a Crook converted try.
