Showdown with Devils has Bulls thinking positively

BRADFORD BULLS’ Lee Gaskell insists there is more pressure on his former club Salford Red Devils when it comes to the relegation dogfight due to their excessive spending.

The West Yorkshire club will look to put the disappointment of their Challenge Cup quarter-final defeat against Warrington Wolves quickly behind them at Salford on Sunday.

Second-bottom Bradford remain six points adrift of safety, but realise victory at their 11th-placed struggling hosts could kick-start their season.

Salford, whose ambitious owner Marwan Koukash has invested a fortune trying to make them a title contender, have failed to win any of their last seven Super League games since winning at Odsal on April 11.

“I think Salford are under a lot more pressure than us with the money that Koukash has spent,” said full-back Gaskell.

“He’s expecting his players to deliver week in, week out but I think we can go there and win.

“I’m quite surprised they have struggled so much but when you bring in so many players it takes time to gel.

“There’s different personalities and it’s whether they get on with each other on and off the pitch.

“They’ve got world-class players, though, and it’s only a matter of time before they do.

“But it would be massive to beat Salford because they’re one of the teams around us and it would drag them right into it.

“We are capable of beating any team on our day and this is a must-win for us. We need it.”

They hope to hear the result of their appeal against a six-point deduction before the weekend.

Gaskell, who spent last season on loan from St Helens at Salford, said: “We’re not concentrating on that, but it would be nice to get it done so we know where we stand. It was a good time for me at Salford because I got a good few games under my belt after not playing much at Saints.

“I could have signed for them but I met with Franny (Cummins) and it’s been a good decision for me to come to Bradford. I don’t regret it.”
