Super League boss vows Grand Final WILL be played at Hull

Super League executive chairman Robert Elstone says the Grand Final will definitely be played at KCOM Stadium - even if Hull FC upset the odds and navigate their to the showpiece.

Super League have switched the definitive fixture of the 2020 campaign from their traditional Old Trafford venue due to a fixture clash with Manchester United.

Last month - when the competition was still scheduled to finish with a top-four play-offs - they announced they would be taking it to Hull’s home ground of KCOM Stadium on Friday November 27.

However, since then, the play-offs have been extended to the top-six.

Hull duly finished sixth and then shocked third-placed Warrington Wolves 27-14 in last night’s eliminator play-off at Halliwell Jones Stadium.

If Andy Last’s side win at Wigan Warriors in next Thursday’s semi-final they will walk out for the behind-closed-doors contest on home soil.

Even though it will not be a neutral venue in that instance, Elstone said: “We elected to go to KCOM when it was still the top four and Hull were unlikely to get there so that was a factor.

“However, we’re contracted to KCOM and we’re going to KCOM.

“A huge amount of work is going in to making KCOM look brilliant. A substantial budget is being applied to create a really special television event.

We’re targeting a record television audience for that event. There is a lot of work going on to make that a special occasion.”
