VIDEO: Anderson anger at Chase ‘cannonball

FURIOUS Huddersfield Giants coach Paul Anderson says the RFL’s disciplinary panel should “throw the book” at Salford Red Devils’ Rangi Chase for a challenge that could rule out Brett Ferres for four months.

He was ruing his side’s handling ineptitude again yesterday after their mistake-ridden performance led to a 20-16 defeat at Hull KR.

However, although Anderson is confident he can correct those issues, he is still angered by a “cannonball” tackle from former England stand-off Chase in Huddersfield’s Good Friday loss to Salford.

Chase has been called up by the match review panel to face the disciplinary tomorrow evening on a Grade E charge of dangerous contact which could result in an eight-game ban.

But Anderson said: “That’s still not enough.

“I’d really like to see them throw the book at Chase for what he did to Brett.

“It was a disgrace. It was a cowardly attack and he’s got history, hasn’t he?

“There’s no way I’d ever coach a player to attack the standing leg of an opponent, which is what happened.

“At this stage, we still don’t know for sure how long Brett’s going to be out – he was having a scan at 2pm today to see if he needs surgery or not – but we’re definitely looking at between three and four months.”

Huddersfield made a staggering 14 handling errors as their four-game winning run was ended by Salford.

Things were not quite as chaotic yesterday but Anderson said: “We’ve an inability at the moment to stay disciplined. And discipline does not just mean giving penalties away but sticking to simple things like plans and structure.

“We just need to get out on the field and practice. We had one 20-minute session on Sunday. Brett is a fair miss as hehas an understanding with Danny Brough. Ukuma Ta’ai hasn’t got that yet but he’s a handful when he carries.”
