The Super League side, who reached Wembley last term before being beaten 50-0 by Leeds Rhinos, host the Championship part-timers on Saturday.

With Rovers having also been embarrassed 40-0 at home to Catalans Dragons last week, they will seek an instant response.

And Greenwood, in particular, will be keen to return to the field.

Oldham is my hometown,” said the 24-year-old, who joined from Wigan Warriors after an initial loan spell at Rovers last term.

“I never played for them but did sort of support them; I was on the terraces when they were Oldham Bears in Super League then Roughyeds but I was only tiny.

“I still live there, though, in Saddleworth and have a lot of mates around there.

“They’re going to be underdogs but will look at that Catalans result as a massive positive.

“They had a good win the other week themselves beating Batley and they will be on a high; as a lower league team they can throw everything at us and then see what happens.”

Rovers have won just twice in 11 matches this season and Greenwood knows they should have done more against Catalans.

He was fuming with himself when, trailing 16-0 in the first half, he surged through but lost possession when trying to beat Dragons full-back Tony Gigot over the line.

“Personally I’m disappointed in that situation; players should be finishing those off,” said the former South Wales Scorpions player.

“You could say it was good defence from the full-back but I should have scored.

“It was a big turning point, too, as they went straight down and scored at the other end.

“We didn’t have the ball for the first 10 minutes and as soon as we did I bombed the try like that and it’s disappointing.

“One on one with the full-back…? He had a last-ditch effort but I should have finished it.”

Greenwood, who has missed only one game so far this term, said: “They got a bit of the bounce ball and that happens but at the end of the day you create your own luck.

“Completing their sets as high they did, it does take a toll on your defence.

“We’ve got to stick together and get back on the horse.”

His own game is certainly improving after gaining more game-time at Rovers than previously with Wigan.

“That’s what I wanted when I first came here,” explained Greenwood.

“I just wanted those minutes and I’m getting them now.

“My performances have not been what I want them to be and we’re working on that every week at training.

“They’re not too bad but have not been up to scratch. I’m just looking forward to getting that game-time and I am really enjoying it.”
